MobileCheck extension privacy policy
This policy covers the MobileCheck browser extension for Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers. The website mobilefriendlycheck.com has its own privacy policy.
The short version
The extension collects no personal data and sends nothing to us or to anyone else. Everything it does happens in your browser, and everything it saves stays there.
What the extension handles
- Addresses of pages you test and the pages themselves: loaded in a window the extension opens, in your browser, the same way you would open them yourself.
- Screenshots and reports: saved in your browser's extension storage (IndexedDB). The newest 40 reports are kept; you can delete any or all of them at any time under “My reports”. Uninstalling the extension deletes them all.
- Preferences (chosen devices, extra checks, theme): saved in your browser's extension storage.
Pages you test are opened with your browser's normal cookies and sign-ins, so the sites you test see an ordinary visit from your browser. The extension doesn't read, copy or transmit your cookies or passwords.
What the extension doesn't do
- It doesn't send page contents, screenshots, reports, addresses or any usage data to MobileCheck or to third parties.
- It has no analytics, tracking, advertising or remote code.
- It doesn't run on pages you browse. It only works in the windows it opens for a test or a phone window, and on mobilefriendlycheck.com, where it only tells the website that it is installed and receives your “Run in my browser” requests.
- It doesn't sell or share data — there is none to sell or share.
Permissions
- debugger: emulates the device (screen size, pixel density, touch, user agent, colour scheme) in the windows the extension opens, runs the readability check there and takes screenshots.
- storage and unlimitedStorage: keeps reports and screenshots in your browser.
- contextMenus, activeTab: adds “Test this page on phones” to the right-click menu and reads the address of the tab you start from.
- Access to mobilefriendlycheck.com: lets the website hand a test or phone window over to the extension.
The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
